Lighting
The Purpose of this part of the website is to find out which type of lighting is more efficient both
in energy usage and in cost.  In the chart below shows the dimensions of our new house.  This
will be a helpful in describing the rest of the project.

Life Cycle Analysis of Incandescent and Fluorescent:

-First thing we need to do is find out how many lumens is needed for each room in the house.  To do this we
take the area of each room times the amount of footcandles needed for each room.  Here is a list of
footcandles for each room:
Living Room-  10-20 fc
Kitchen-  30-40 fc
Stove-  70-80 fc
Dinning Room-  30-40 fc
Hall Way- 5-10 fc
Sink- 70-80 fc
Bedrooms- 10-20 fc
Bathroom- 70-80 fc

Lumens for each room:
Living Room:  3060
Kitchen:  2700
Stove:  525
Dinning Room:  2700
Hall Way:  360
Sink: 840
Bedroom (13x19):  2470
Bedroom (14x19):  2660
Bathroom:  4410

-Next we have to find how many light bulbs of both Incandescent and Fluorescent we need per room.  To do
this we take the lumens for each room divided by the amount of lumens each lightbulb gives off.  We should
give information on the light bulbs we are comparing before we proceed.  You can see below the information
to complete this step.

Incandescent:
-75 Watt/lumens-855/6000hours of lifetime/cost-$1.20
-Info on this product found at-http://
www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=31310

-15 Watt/lumens-90/5000hours of lifetime/cost-$1.12
-Info on this product found at-http://
www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=428

Fluorescent:
-18 Watt/lumens-1200/10,000hours lifetime/cost-$6.83
-Info on this product found at-http://
www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=8964

-40 watt/lumens-2600/10,000hours of lifetime/cost-$9.98
-Info on this product found at-http://
www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=10243

-4 watt/lumens-250/8,000hours of lifetime/cost-$6.12
-Info on this product at-http://
www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=28162

     Incandescent Bulbs Needed:                                          Example:  3060 lumens / 855 watts= 4 bulbs
     Living Room:  4 Bulbs(75watt)
     Kitchen:  4 Bulbs(75watt)
     Stove:  6 Bulbs(15watt)
     Dinning Room:  4 Bulbs(75watt)
     Hall Way:  4 Bulbs(15watt)
     Sink:  1 Bulb(40watt)
     Bedroom(13x19):  3 Bulbs(40watt)
     Bedroom(14x19):  4 Bulbs(40watt)
     Bathroom:  6 Bulbs(40watt)

     Fluorescent Bulbs Needed:
     Living room: 1 Bulb(40watt) + 1 Bulb(18watt)
     Kitchen:  1 Bulb(40watt) + 1 Bulb(4watt)
     Stove:  2 Bulbs(4watt)
     Dinning Room:  1 Bulb(40watt) + 1 Bulb(4watt)
     Hall Way:  2 Bulbs(4watt)
     Sink:  4 Bulbs (4watt)
     Bedroom(13x19):   1 Bulbs(40watt)
     Bedroom(14x19):   1 Bulbs(40watt)
     Bathroom:  2 Bulbs(40watt)

-Next we calculate how many bulb changes we will have to do in one lifetime.  To do this we take the lifetime
of the fluorescent which is 10,000 over the lifetime of the incandescent which is 6,000 and this gives us 2
times.
-Now we use that information to figure out how many Incandescent light bulbs will be needed.  To do this we
take the number we just found times the amount of light bulbs needed to light the room which we found
above.
Living room: 8 Bulbs                                                              Example:  4 Light Bulbs x 2= 8 Light Bulbs
     Kitchen:  8 Bulbs
     Stove:  12 Bulbs
     Dinning Room:  8 Bulbs
     Hall Way:  8 Bulbs
     Sink:  2 Bulbs
     Bedroom(13x19):  6 Bulbs
     Bedroom(14x19):  8 Bulbs
     Bathroom:  12 Bulbs

-Next we find the cost of the light bulbs both Incandescent and Fluorescent.  To do this we take the number of
light bulbs needed times the price of the light bulbs which is listed above.
Cost for Incandescent:                                                           Example:  8 Light Bulbs x $1.20= $9.60
     Living room:  $9.60
     Kitchen:  $9.60
     Stove:  $13.44
     Dinning Room: $9.60
     Hall Way:  $8.96
     Sink:  $2.40
     Bedroom(13x19):  $7.20
     Bedroom(14x19):  $9.60
     Bathroom:  $14.40

     Cost for Fluorescent:
     Living room:  $16.87
     Kitchen:  $16.10
     Stove:  $24.48
     Dinning Room:  $16.10
     Hall Way:  $12.24
     Sink:  $24.48
     Bedroom(13x19):  $9.98
     Bedroom(14x19):  $9.98
     Bathroom:  $19.96

-Next we need to figure out the power requirements for each room.  To do this we take the number of light
bulbs needed for each room and multiply that number by number of watts each light bulb uses(which is given
above).
     Incandescent:                                                                      Example:  8 Light Bulbs x 75 watts= 600 watts
     Living room: 600 watts
     Kitchen:  600 watts
     Stove:  180 watts
     Dinning Room:  600 watts
     Hall Way:  120 watts
     Sink:  150 watts
     Bedroom(13x19):  450 watts
     Bedroom(14x19):  600 watts
     Bathroom:  900 watts

     Fluorescent:
     Dinning room:  58 watts
     Kitchen:  44 watts
     Stove:  8 watts
     Dinning room:  44 watts
     Hall Way:  8 watts
     Sink:  16 watts
     Bedroom(13x19):   40 watts
     Bedroom(14x19):   40 watts
     Bathroom:  80 watts
